Vellum Institute is a small, application-based online institute built around live faculty seminars. Vellum Fellows are a selected group of high school students who take a live seminar with a professor from a premier university, an expert in their field with strong research and teaching credentials, then go further with an optional one-on-one research relationship.
At the small set of schools most families are chasing, acceptance has compressed by roughly half in a decade, even as application volume climbs. A stronger score does not answer that. A real, faculty-vouched intellectual relationship starts to.

Vellum is prepared animal skin, and for over a thousand years it was the material reserved for work meant to last: manuscripts, charters, and texts worth copying by hand at real cost because the knowledge inside them was worth preserving. Paper was cheaper and faster. Vellum was for what mattered.
A professor who has spent a career on a subject, sitting with a small group of students who can keep pace, has never scaled cheaply. We treat that scarcity as the point, not a problem to design away with bigger classes or recorded lectures.
We would rather run fewer seminars, staffed by faculty we can vouch for personally, than expand the catalog with instructors we would not choose for our own children. A course that is not ready does not run.
